Vacancies filled at the Ministry of Defence

At the plenary session on 9 September 2010 the Finnish Government has appointed Brigadier General Esa Pulkkinen as Head of the Defence Policy Department from 1 January 2011 to 31 December 2015, and Head of Department Teemu Penttilä as Head of the Administration
Policy Department from 1 October 2010 to 30 September 2015.

Brigadier General Esa Ilmari Pulkkinen, born in 1957, has served as Chief of Operations at the EU Military Staff in Brussels. Earlier in his career he held the following positions: Deputy Chief of the Planning Division at the Defence Staff; chairman of the working group for the EU presidency at the Ministry of Defence; Commander of the Jaeger Brigade in Sodankylä; military representative, Chief of the Planning Division and national expert at the EU Military Staff; Commandant of the Armour School, Armoured Brigade; and senior staff officer in the Defence Policy Department at the Ministry of Defence. He completed the General Staff Officer Course in 1989. He was promoted to Brigadier General in 2008.

Mr Teemu Juhani Penttilä, born in 1964, has been acting as Head of the Administration Policy Department since 2007. Before that he worked as assessor of the defence forces and as deputy chief of division, chief of office and military lawyer at the Defence Staff. He completed the Master of Laws degree in 1992.
