Minister of Defence Jussi Niinistö to a defence minister meeting in Denmark

Minister of Defence Jussi Niinistö will take part in the meeting for Nordic defence ministers in Copenhagen 9 November 2016. He will also attend working sessions for Nordic and Baltic defence ministers and the Northern Group?s defence ministers.

Nordic defence ministers will discuss current affairs in Nordic defence cooperation, security situation in the neighbouring regions and the results of the Danish Presidency. Joint exercises and participation in crisis management operations are also on the agenda. A Memorandum of Understanding is to be signed among Nordic countries during the meeting to facilitate easier access to each other?s territories (Easy Access MoU). The arrangement makes it easier for Nordic troops to access other Nordic countries territories in peace time. In addition, Finland will present the objectives for its presidency which is scheduled to begin in 2017.

Northern European security matters will be addressed in the working session of the Northern Group. Its members include, apart from the Nordic countries and the Baltic States, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Poland and Germany.

The development of defence cooperation, both on the regional and European level, will be addressed in the meetings of both the Nordic countries and the Baltic States, and the Northern Group.
