The US Secretary of Defense James Mattis to visit Helsinki on 6 to 7 November 2017
Defence Minister Jussi Niinistö will host the visit of Secretary of Defense James Mattis to Helsinki on 6 to 7 November.
Defense Secretary Mattis will attend the working session of the Nordic Group?s defence ministers that will be held in Helsinki on 7.11. The security situation in the neighbouring areas and the transatlantic defence cooperation will be discussed during the working session. Apart from the Nordic countries and the Baltic States, the Northern Group consists of the Netherlands, Great Britain, Poland and Germany.
Defense Secretary Mattis and Defence Minister Niinistö will also hold bilateral discussions where they will discuss the overall security policy situation and current themes in defence cooperation between the two countries.
Finland will also host a trilateral meeting for the United States, Finland and Sweden to discuss defence cooperation.
During his work visit Defense Secretary Mattis will also meet the President of the Republic Sauli Niinistö.
