Finland to deliver more defence materiel to Ukraine

Finland will deliver more defence materiel to Ukraine. The President of the Republic decided on the matter, on the proposal of the Government, on 9 February 2024.

This will be the 22nd package of defence materiel to Ukraine. Replacement of the capabilities contained in this package will cost Finland an estimated EUR 190 million. The total value of Finland's defence materiel to Ukraine is now EUR 1.8 billion. This package also includes products acquired from domestic industry with separate funding of EUR 30 million that has been reserved for supporting Ukraine.

- New ways of supporting Ukraine in the long term must be found nationally and also more broadly, and we are currently preparing a long-term plan for Ukraine's support, says Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen

- We work hard in the defence administration to ensure that domestic industry's expertise and capacity can be used more efficiently to support Ukraine. One example of this is the domestic production of ammunition.

In addition, Finland has decided to participate in artillery and demining coalitions that operate under the Ukrainian Defense Contact Group. The international capability coalitions aim to provide sustained support to Ukraine.

For operational reasons, and to ensure that the assistance will reach its destination safely, further details on the content of the package, the way it is to be delivered or the schedule will not be given. Both Ukraine’s needs and the resources of the Defence Forces have been taken into account when deciding on additional assistance.
