Government adopted a resolution on safeguarding the technological and industrial base of Finland’s defence

The Government plenary session adopted today a resolution on safeguarding the technological and industrial base of Finland’s defence. Its critical capability areas and the critical technologies to manage these areas are defined in the resolution.

According to the resolution, military security of supply plays a specific role for Finland. Therefore defence industry which is based in Finland is vital for securing the functioning of critical systems and security of supply. As a part of comprehensive national defence, domestic defence industry is integral in maintaining and developing a number of key weapon systems. Domestic defence industry has been integrated in many ways into Finland’s defence system.

As stated in the resolution, the requirements to safeguard the technological and industrial base of Finland’s defence will have to be taken into account also in the procurement and research activities of the Defence Forces. In the near future, the projects to replace the capabilities of both the combatant vessels of the Navy which are becoming obsolete and the fighters of the Air Force are of particular significance.

The Ministry of Defence and the Defence Forces were in charge of preparing the resolution. The Ministry of Employment and the Economy, the National Emergency Supply Agency and the Association of Finnish Defence and Aerospace Industries (AFDA) contributed to the preparatory work.
