Service contract between Defence Forces and health care districts to extend until end of 2023

The Defence Forces’ Logistic Command has received a mandate, on 12.10.2018, from Minister of Defence Jussi Niinistö to conclude service contracts between the Defence Forces and health care districts.

In order to provide statutory services for conscripts and their personnel, the Defence Forces have bought, since 2006, medicines, health care materials, imaging and laboratory services, and specialised health care services for conscripts from health care districts. Primary health care and other non-specialised health care measures continue to be provided at the garrisons’ health care stations, which are also responsible for organising medical service during exercises.

The Defence Forces’ own hospital operations at the former Tilkka military hospital ended in 2005. Since then the Defence Forces have relied on health care districts for specialised health care, and fixed-term contracts have been concluded with all health care districts. The first five-year contract period started in 2006. The service contract now concluded will be valid from 1 January 2019 to 31 December 2023 and includes an option for years 2024-2026.
