Minister of Defence Kaikkonen to attend Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Brussels

Minister of Defence Antti Kaikkonen will attend the EU's Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Brussels on 6 May 2021. The meeting will be chaired by High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell. Meetings of the ministerial steering boards of the European Defence Agency (EDA) and the European Union Satellite Centre (EU SATCEN) will be organised in connection with the Foreign Affairs Council.

The Foreign Affairs Council will address, at the defence-minister-level meeting, the Strategic Compass and the discussions will focus in particular on the EU's military crisis management operations. Finland actively promotes the development of crisis management to improve security in Europe, in its neighbourhood and globally.

At the end of the Foreign Affairs Council meeting, cooperation between the EU and NATO will be discussed over lunch, to which NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has been invited. Finland has stressed the importance of EU-NATO cooperation and the deepening of this cooperation. Currently, the main themes of cooperation include crisis management, the prevention of hybrid threats, military mobility and cyber security.
