Defence Forces receives additional funding to replace materiel provided to support Ukraine

In its first supplementary budget for 2023, the Government will allocate a total of about EUR 704 million in additional funding for the administrative branch of the Ministry of Defence between 2023 and 2027.

With this funding, the Defence Forces will replace defence materiel that has been delivered to Ukraine last autumn and will be delivered in the course of spring 2023.

“Finland supports Ukraine by both providing defence materiel and participating in training operations for Ukrainian soldiers. Ukraine continues to need support in defending its territory, and Finland is committed to providing this support,” says Minister of Defence Mikko Savola.

So far, Finland has made decisions to support Ukraine with twelve defence materiel packages, the replacement value of which is approximately EUR 590 million. In addition, EUR 200 million will be earmarked for materiel to be delivered in spring 2023.

The Defence Forces will also allocate approximately EUR 4 million internally to the expenses of the European Union Military Assistance Mission in support of Ukraine (EUMAM Ukraine). In the mission, Finland will participate in training and advisory tasks.
