Finland continues to support Ukraine

Finland provides defence materiel for the training of Ukrainian soldiers in the EUMAM Ukraine operation. On 21 April 2023, the President of the Republic decided on the matter on the proposal of the Government.

The aim of the joint operation is to provide both basic and specialised training for 30,000 Ukrainian soldiers. The training takes place in Poland.

- Ukraine needs a wide range of support. We participate in the EU training mission by training Ukrainian soldiers and providing the necessary materiel assistance, says Minister of Defence Antti Kaikkonen.

This will be the 15th package of defence materiel that Finland delivers to Ukraine. It is estimated that to replace the defence materiel capabilities in this package will cost Finland EUR 78 million. The combined value of all defence materiel packages submitted so far is about EUR 990 million.

For operational reasons and to ensure that the delivery reaches its destination, more detailed information on the content of the assistance, manner of delivery or schedule will not be provided.

Both Ukraine’s needs and the resources of the Defence Forces have been taken into account when deciding on the additional assistance.
