Russian attack on Ukraine and Finland's support to Ukraine

Russia launched an invasion against Ukraine on 24 February 2022. Finland strongly condemns Russia’s military actions in Ukraine and unequivocally supports Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty, self-determination and territorial integrity. As part of the European Union, Finland will respond to Russia’s actions.

Finland’s foreign policy leadership is closely monitoring Russia’s actions and the security situation in Europe.

Finland defence materiel assistance to Ukraine

Following Russia’s aggression, Ukraine has requested materiel assistance from the EU and NATO member countries.

To date, Finland has donated 23 defence materiel packages to Ukraine. The combined value of all defence materiel packages submitted so far is now over EUR 2 billion.

As part of international cooperation on Leopard armoured vehicles, Finland has decided to hand over in total six Leopard 2 mine clearing tanks to Ukraine, including training related to their use and maintenance.

For operational reasons and to ensure that the delivery reaches its destination, more detailed information on the content of the assistance, manner of delivery or schedule will not be provided. Both Ukraine’s needs and the resources of the Defence Forces are always taken into account when deciding on the additional assistance.

Finland is part of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, which consists of over 50 countries and which, led by the United States, coordinates the delivery of armed assistance to Ukraine.
